Hi, recently given a 2nd-hand Razer Blade Pro 17 (2020), previous owner said she used it only on Zoom Calls. Specs below.

Upon receipt noticed that the laptop would stop charging when it is on 100%, maybe after some minutes then it would say it is on battery but not really discharging. Then after some more minutes it would go back to charging, then it would repeat. Razer Support says that there is an internal circuitry that creates this action to preserve the battery... but it leads to a bad gaming experience though... you're palying at 140FPS, then all of a sudden it drops to 60FPS and stutters the whole way, just because of this "feature".

But here comes the funny part, used the unit on battery until it drained to 68%. Plugged it in, et viola! it did not charge the laptop. Stayed at 68% for two days of normal use and gaming. Then after two days, it started to charge, but stopped at 88%, then some hours pass, then it charged to 100 and the previously-mentioned cycle repeats. As per HWinfo, Battery Wear Level is at 5.5% only.

What's more funny? The laptop has no problems charging on an ROG 100W USB-C Power Adapter.

Even bought me a new 230W power brick from razer to see if the charger is the problem, but no.

Did a clean install and re-installed Synapse, updated drivers, but the problem still presented itself. Razer Support wanted to RMA but I am not there yet personally.

So asking you guys if you have experienced this with Razer Products? Did you find a fix?

Hey there,

that kind of battery behaviour, typically points to the battery dying (some cells).

Best thing to do is find a replacement. They can be easily sourced online. If they've suggested RMA'ing, then go for it. They may replace the battery at no cost.
Got that notion too, that the battery is not really at tip-top shape as mentioned by previous owner.

Yeah, RMA might be the path, out of warranty though, but no problem.

Battery Replacements online? You know some that ship worldwide? Top hits when I search online look like scammers.

Appreciate the response, very grateful for it.

DO you have anything like this in your location?https://www.laptopbatteries.ie/?gad...LFx9OGJhh090HcYEDRGx0_jQqQ9H5JrBoCigUQAvD_BwE

You might also find a MSI battery supplier that might work with them (MSI) for repairs/returns. They are often partner sellers.
Found a reputable battery seller and got a 3rd Party replacement.

It charged for a good 20mins, from 50 to 65%, then the problem reared it's ugly head again. It stopped charging at 65%, waiting for it to charge again.

Which brand battery?
No brand, looks like an imitation, just went with the reputation of the seller (they do sell good replacement batteries, but I am not willing to know where they get them, hehehe), but after charging to a full 100%, used it and the run time is as expected.

Applied for RMA already, waiting for the instructions (almost three days and no reply yet). Just wanted to eliminate possible sources of the problem. Looks like it's somewhere inside the unit.
