Razer Deathadder suddenly stopped working

This is the second time this has happened in the past 2 or 3 days. I'll be playing a game or something, and my mouse just decides to completely stop working. I have the Razer Synapse 2.0 (wonderful piece of crap that is, by the way) and all of the drivers that are needed for the device. Or rather, I did...

The first time this happened, I decided to clean the mouse, as I heard that was apparently a common problem for this specific mouse. I did that and I uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers just to cover my bases. Everything seemed to be working fine after that. Until today, that is.

It did the exact same thing (I haven't noticed any specific thing or point in time that it happens, it just seems random) but this time it's even more frustrating. My pc doesn't seem to acknowledge that it's even plugged in, which is similar to how it was before, but that seemed to be fixed by uninstalling the driversm letting the pc auto detect it and then reinstalling the razor drivers. After trying what I did before, I still can't get it to auto-detect. I tried with every single USB port I have and none of them work.

Just to be sure the mouse wasn't just screwed up, I tried it on another computer and it auto-detected and installed the generic mouse hardware within a few seconds. So I can only assume it's either something with drivers or my USB controller, but that seems to work fine with everything else, so I would think it's the former.

I would really appreciate any input people could give me, as I have no idea what else to try and I'd really like to get back to using my preferred mouse as soon as possible.

TL;DR - Razer Deathadder suddenly stopped working and is not responding to driver un/reinstallations, as well as the usb ports in general. Works fine on other computers.

Solution
it could be your usb controller still, im wondering if it has lost the ability to run at over 250hz polling rate and the default for the mouse tends to be 500hz.

not all controllers are equal, it could be that yours has started to die from the higher polling rate.

one thing you could try if you have a powered usb hub is to change the settings on the mouse on one pc to 250hz, keep the hub powered and plug the hub into the pc the mouse is not working on as the mouse loses its settings once power is lost and it will revert to 1800dpi and 500hz polling rate.

i also own a deathadder the 3.5g model.

Unfortunately, I don't have a powered usb hub. I just have my PC and a family pc that everyone else uses. 🙁

Hmm. Well, that's actually a possible solution, so that's definitely better than the nothing I'd been stuck with. I'm kind of hoping that isn't it and someone else comes by with a fix to whatever else it might be, though, simply because I don't have anywhere to get a usb card nearby. So I'll need to order one and wait however long it'd take to get here to be able to use my mouse. That wouldn't have been a problem a few months ago, but I went from a wireless mouse to a wired gaming mouse and I can feel just how slow this wireless one is now.

That aside, I'll definitely keep that in mind if I don't hear something soon. Who knows? Maybe my friends dad (he's works in the computer field) has a spare one lying around that I can at least test with, so that I know for sure whether or not that's the problem. Thanks for the help so far.

Oh yeah, everything else works fine. I've got my headset, external hard drive, keyboard and for the time being, my wireless mouse all setup and I've had no problems. On the note of getting a usb card... I don't know what computer I was thinking I had, but I apparently do not have an extra pci-e or pci slot available. So that option is out as well.

This seems to be a relatively common problem with the 2013 model. Not so much so that people have found solutions, but enough that I've found a fair amount of threads with people complaining about the exact same problem. It always happens on a reboot (hearing that reminded me of when my problem started, both times) and if you can't get windows to auto-detect the mouse after installing the drivers, you're kind of screwed, because razer decided that they didn't want to give anyone stand-alone driver downloads for this particular model. Without auto-detect, synapse doesn't see any devices; without detected razer devices, you get no driver download.

Every thread I've seen has just kind of abruptly ended and therefor the issue was never resolved (so far as I know). But I've messaged a couple of the people that were having the issue to ask if they ever found a solution. One person thought it had to do with Windows 7 x64, which is what I'm using, but that idea was shot down when several people said that it worked fine for their Win7 x64 systems. One guy suggested that it could be a driver conflict, which I suppose could be the issue, but I've not changed anything with my drivers since I got this mouse like 4+ months ago, so I'm not sure why it would suddenly decide to act up now.

Edit: I did a system restore to get the drivers back, but it's still not working or being detected by my computer.

the mouse should still work on default windows HID drivers, mine has no problems before even installing razer synapse and razer drivers, it still works.

you have also seen the mouse works fine still on other computers before installing razer drivers.

i still think its more to do with the polling rate defaulted to 500hz and peoples usb controllers.

what motherboard do you have by chance? maybe you want to reinstall your usb drivers and see if that makes a difference.

Solution

Oh, I know it'll work without the razer drivers. I just wanted to see if reverting it temporarily fixed it to see if it was some kind of conflict. I just like checking everything I can so that I can definitely rule out certain things.

I use a Gigabyte GA-870A-UD3 motherboard. I actually thought about reinstalling the usb drivers just before I checked here again. I noticed that there's an unrecognized USB device in "other devices" within the device manager, so I figured that probably be something to check on. I'll get them in just a few minutes and report any possible changes.

Edit: Well, that got rid of the unrecognized device, but it didn't do anything for my deathadder.

Oh, hey! You're right. I have a few other things plugged into my board and my massive GPU blocked my view of one of the pci slots I wasn't using. So I guess there's always the option to try that. As far as trying the USB slots: I've tried all 8 on the back and the 2 on the front and none of them do anything for it.

maybe its a driver remnant problem, there is a program here i just found that can clean away any razer driver remnants. give it a go.

http://www.drivercleaner.net/download.php

dont bother, i did not realise you had to pay for this one compared to driver sweeper.

if you are sure all drivers are removed, only other thing i can think of is to run ccleaners registry cleaner multiple times untill it finds no errors to see if it could be a registry entry causing problems.

I can't say that I'm 100% sure that they're all gone. I assume so, because I'm fairly sure I know where they all install to and I had uninstalled all of the device manager stuff and deleted whatever was left of that folder. But I can't say I'm completely certain. If you've got any tips to make sure I've gotten rid of everything, I'd be happy to hear them. Otherwise, I have ccleaner already, so I can try that whenever.

Edit: I've done everything I know to do as far as getting rid of the drivers go. I uninstalled and deleted driver remnants I could find, and used ccleaner and drivercleaner to get rid of anything left over. Still a no go on detecting the mouse. I'm now waiting to hear from a friend on a usb card and/or usb to ps2 converter to see if either of those work. Those are the only 2 possible solutions I know of at this point.

I tried the usb to ps/2 convertor with no luck. Not sure if the convertor itself is messed up or if it's still whatever problem I have, but it didn't make a difference. The mouse still works perfectly on other computers. The only other option I've heard that I haven't tried is getting a USB card, but I don't have high hopes for it simply because of my luck so far. If anyone else has any input, please take the time to leave me some advice. I don't have a lot of money right now, so if I can't get this working, I'll be stuck with a sluggish, wireless mouse for quite some time.

And just now, all of a sudden, I decided to plug it back in and my pc detected it and installed HID compliant mouse drivers.... W T F. I'm happy to have it working (for the moment), but I have a bad feeling this is going to happen again.

Have the Same Problem. I took a second Deathadder 2013 and plugged it in and it worked fine. The first one still doesn't wanna get recognized though. Took my first mouse to another computer, worked fine. Wierd as hell.
