Razer Deathadder without a pad?

Hey guys,

So I have the chance today to earn the Razer Deathadder for only 40$ which is awesome because I'm looking for a great mouse for a long time.
The thing is, I don't want to spend money for pad too. Is it OK to use the DeathAdder without any pad?
Or do I must have one?

i dont have a pad, yet i regret it often. so, yes to your answer, you can use the DA w/o any mousepad.

*however* there are plenty non-razer mousepads out there (for example, the Qck is a favourite amongst Quake pros) that cost less and perform well, you should try to get one. i haven't got one just because i'm broke atm.

just get a generic $5 pad for the time being, I'm sure you can afford that, till you save up some cash for high-end pad

Yes the DA's IR LED sensor will work on most hard surfaces. The accuracy of tracking will be determine by the type of hard surface your using it on. But its not recommended.

In short, spend the extra money and buy your self a cheap mouse pad.

depends on your desk surface... if its smooth or lightly textured plastic then you wont need 1 as you should get a better return from the laser . i have the destructor mat and to be honest its a waste of money for my lachesis, but it works great with my mad catz rat 7...
but the best surface for both is the plain desktop which is plastic laminate.

You know a lambskin mousepad sealed with dark matter provides the smoothest response for the Lachesis.

i dunno m8. ive not used it i just know the destructor is a waste of money for the Lachesis as it doesnt glide smoothly across the surface but rather scrapes across it...
the rat 7 on the other hand works perfectly... but still i wouldnt recommend that razer pad. claims of 37% increased accuracy are exaggerated the later version of the lachesis may well work better but the 5400dpi 1 doesnt.

i will say that while you can just not use one it will wear down your desktops finish. then the mouse wont track worth a crap. you should just get a $5 belkin one from walmart if you dont want to spend too much

I have been using a Fellowes pad that I bough years ago ( like this one ) with a Razer Imperator. The fabric has enough texture to it the laser has no trouble tracking, even on the higher resolutions and the mouse glides without issue. A friend of mine let me test his QcK and I did not notice enough of a difference to make me run out and get one. Being only $10 for the standard QcK though it would be on my list for a replacement if what I already have gets ruined.

I have also used it with no pad at all, my desk has a fake woodgrain laminate, and the laser tracks just fine on it too, but I worry that too much use would wear down the pads on the mouse faster.

I have a Razer and it works horrible on my laminate desk, depends on surface though. I bought a Steelseries 4HD and it works just perfectly and isn't expensive.
