Xbox Kinect has been able to do this for 10 years.. they just need to add that background transparency functionality.. the hardware has been there for quite some time.

I know it's not the point, but the screenshot they used to demonstrate this looks like a game from the 90's. They should have partnered with a game studio or contracted some indy developers to mod something more current.
