Razer Tiamat 7.1 vs astro a40 2013?

i am looking for a new headset. because my logitech g930 got an issue with the distance, or something like that.
I want some really good quality of the headset and a good sound quality, and i think these two headset are best for that (i have only researched). But wich is best?

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't the astro a40 2013 a virtual 7.1 headset?

Or have I understood you wrong? I thought you want a true 7.1 headset only...

From what I have read, real 7.1 headset do not really improve the sound positioning much, but the sound quality suffers a lot. I would go for a decent 2.0 headset with good virtual 7.1.

If you are getting the Razer Tiamat 7.1 anyway, tell me / us how you like them 🙂

Do not buy the A40's...

I owned a pair and I had to return them due to sound bugs. They gave me a new one and it had mic problems. I had Astro send me a new microphone (not headset) and finally everything worked properly.

Sound also cuts out randomly, Astro products really aren't as great as I thought they would be.

but ive heard the sound quality in the razer tiamat is poor.
somebody there got them?

I've had good experience with their customer service and so far my A30's are holding up!

With a 7.1 headset you get many little speakers instead of two big speakers, the result is poor sound quality compared to a 2.0 headset in the same price range and distortion (Small speaker > bass and / or high volume > distortion). The difference between the quality of a 7.1 and a 2.0 headset is clearly noticable, but the sound positioning is not that noticable.

The headset I proposed here is made for sound positioning and they are 2.0. With good big speakers and good virtual positioning, you get an exellent 7.1 experience with high quality sound. But nevertheless, you get slightly better sound positioning with a real 7.1 system.

Update: I have to read some more reviews of the Tiamat 7.1. It seems that if you are going for a real 7.1 headset, the Tiamat 7.1 is one of the best in it's price range. The is a similar discussion of Tomshardware about a good gaming headset and if the Tiamat 7.1 is worth buying.
