re: a recording problem with a Syvlania model sdrv495

I just got this Syvlania model sdrv495 VHS/DVD recorder/play back setup from goodwill. It plays both vhs tapes and dvd movies just fine. The vhs side of the house also records just fine. But the dvd recorder will not record. I will get the following error messages when I hit the manual record button. With a dvd read-wright disk I get "disk error, please eject the disk, playback features may not be available on this disk". On a single 1 time record dvd R I get the same error message as above. Now the remote control didn't come with it. But it seams to me that with a blank dvd in the tray that the manual record would work for a test to see if the machine records before ordering the remote for it.

So make sure for recording purposes you use only -R blank DVD media, not +R

Finding dvd-r/rw is next to immposable in my town. Everyone around here sells +r/rw.
