My current system is an old 2011 gaming rig. I want to get it ready for Oculus rift if that is even possible.

What I'm really wondering is if I can just replace my CPU & GPU and add some USB 3.0 into the mix.

Heres my current setup:

Motherboard: acer aspire G7750
CPU: i7 950@3.07
RAM: 12G DIMM DDR3
GPU: NVIDIA GTX 760

I mean, even if none of the parts are compatible, at least I can reuse my case, optical drive, and power supply... right??

Thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to read this over and offer any advice!

Solution
Here are the recommended specs for the oculus https://www.oculus.com/en-us/blog/powering-the-rift/

If you want to meet these requirements you will basically need a new computer. mobo/gpu/cpu. I havent used the oculus myself so I cant say for sure but I would imagine the last thing you want in VR is stuttering and low frame rates.

Solution

Probably not.

Case: maybe, depending on air flow requirements for new equipment.
Optical drive: yes.
PSU: probably not. Its 4-5 years old now and you will most likely have higher power requirements depending on what you get. Everything in the box is dependent on clean reliable power. Don't skimp on the PSU. Once you settle on the equipment you want, go to one of the online power calculators and determine what you need. If you plan on doing future upgrades go 20% to 50% over the recommended power rating. Be sure to get a good quality unit. Tier 1 or Tier 2 - Tier List 2.0
