And yet another opinion:
Create a boot disk.
Change the first bootable device in the BIOS to A, or the floppy drive, the second to CD-ROM, and the third to C, or IDE 0. Save your changes and exit.
Partition the drive with FDISK.
Take the boot disk out of the floppy drive after exiting FDISK, and place the Win2K installation CD in the CD-ROM. Hit Ctrl+Alt+Del to exit FDISK and reboot.
The computer will boot from the CD-ROM, and begin the installation of Windows automatically.
Follow the onscreen instructions to install Win2K on the first, active partition. The CD will allow you to format the partition during the installation.
When the operating system has been installed, restart, and enter the BIOS again. Change the first bootable device to IDE 0. Save and exit.
Once back in Windows, right-click on any partitions assigned a drive letter that have not yet been formatted, go to Properties, and choose FORMAT. Select the file system for each partition. I suggest starting off with FAT32 for all partitions, and then convert the file system to NTFS, if you so desire.
After creating a connection to your ISP, patch the operating system from Windows Update. Install DirectX 8.1. Install the latest chipset drivers. Install Service Pack 2. Install the latest drivers for all devices, leaving the video card for last, to avoid conflicts.
The display adapter should first be installed as Standard VGA, and then manually upgraded with the newest video card drivers. The drivers should be extracted into a folder. Do not use the installation launcher in a driver set ... it is often corrupted, and will cause problems when rebooting the computer.
Now ... install and patch your personal third party programs. Adjust the Services configuration.
Thoroughly scan all hard drives and defrag. Set the Startup and Recover settings under My Computer\Properties\Advanced. Choose (none) for the Write Debugging Information, and clear the check box for Automatically Restart.
Go to bed! Pray a little. Boot up, and if everything seems to be functional in the morning, check the Event Viewer for errors. (My Computer\Manage\Event Viewer ... Application and System logs. If you are error-free, do some tweaking.

Finally, image the active partition, have a beer, and go establish your bragging rights on your favorite message board. You're done. Everything else is gravy.
