I built my HTPC as a test a while back. I was running a 30 day trial on Ultimate and just lived with the annoying messages that it's now giving me of Not Genuine. Well I have since purchased a copy of Professional.

What is the EASIEST approach here, if any? I am booting from a 64GB SSD and have all my files stored on separate drives. Is there any backup, ghost software of sorts that will help to retain my programs?

Try browsing to following registry key, change the specified value...

Go to HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion and change the value of EditionID key to "Professional" without the quotes.

...and then try entering the new serial number you have for Professional. No idea if this will actually work yet, but it's worth a shot.
