Re-installed Win7. Looking for old registry

I just re-installed Win7 on my brother's PC. As it was rebooting, I remembered that I didn't get the reg code out. I think it is laying around the house somewhere. Somewhere.
But, I 'goofed' when reinstalling and Win made a windows.old folder with the old install.
Is it possible to get the original reg code out of the registry in the .old folder?
Can I safely delete the .old folder after finding the reg code?

reg code? do you mean the win7 product key?
If the Windows.old folder is not there, you have to buy other one.
If the Windows.old folder is there, you can do "How to restore a Windows 7-based computer to a previous Windows installation by using the Windows.old folder" https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/971760 After that you will find it.

You might also consider keeping discs safely in their correct jewel cases... this is a particular bugbear of mine.
