Re installing OS onto a new ssd with same product key.

So I got a new rig a few days back. Made a stupid decision to not get an ssd and had it assembled at the store where they installed the OS for me. Now I got an ssd and when I try a fresh install on it using the USB not generated by the windows media creation it says windows image not found for the product key.
Will my buying a dvd drive and using the original windows cd work over this?
Or is it something to do with the fact that the os was installed using the same key into my hdd?

What type of Windows key do you have, and what disk did you burn?

I'm not sure what type it is. I used the key on the cover of the windows 8.1 disk. I have not burnt any disk. Just made a bootable USB using the windows media creation app.

So it's a Windows 8.1 key, not Pro and not 10?

I suspect you've used the media creator for 10 not 8.1.

Okay. But will it work if I just use the original CD instead of doing this? The only reason I have not so far is because I don't have a dvd drive. I'm planning to buy one anyway so I can just do it sooner.

Yup, original DVD should definitely work fine.
