Reaching Wifi Through Walls

My family recently moved into a new apartment - one fairly far out in the boonies. My computer ended up having to be set up in the garage, which is downstairs and probably about 50 feet from the wifi router if one were to draw a straight line in 3D space.

There's a floor and several walls in the way, and when I measure signal strength with the NetGear app on my smartphone, it reads -75 dBm or worse. The network drops off entirely fairly regularly and even when I can connect, I sometimes have speeds so slow that they may as well not exist - 5kb/s or less.

So I need recommendations for a new router (running cable isn't a viable solution) that can reach through to the garage with a strong signal, and hopefully doesn't break the bank either (cash is still tight after the move).

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

You may get a better connection with Powerline network adapters. Something like this: https://www.netgear.com/home/products/networking/powerline/PL1200.aspx.
