reading full memory

i have a dell optiplex 745 sff, i put in 4 2gig ddr2-5300 ram sticks, but will only read 4 gigs ram total, im running win7 64bit. any ideas.?

Could be faulty sticks/slots. Could be the chipset not supporting more than 4GB of memory. Try contacting Dell

brand new sticks of memory, chipset says it supports up to 8gig ram.

Are all 4 stick the same model? If yes, which model? Dell is behaving bad with many brands... Also, your RAM slots can be defective/fail.

I agree with Kisianik, I actually have a 745 (mid tower) that I use as a home theater pc, and couldnt get it to recognize more than 4GB of RAM unless I used 4 matchings sticks. Also be aware that as soon as you hit 4GB+ in the 745, the bios knocks the speed down to 667Mhz, even if you are using 800Mhz RAM. Not sure why, but maybe a chipset limitation or just Dell being stupid (like normal).
