Readjust CPU cooler while hot?

So I've been having very high but not critical temperatures on my CPU using the intel stock cooler 63-73C when gaming. I noticed some of the pins on the cooler did not go as far down through the motherboard as the others and was wondering if I could just push them down without the need of reapplying thermal paste since I don't have one right now. Maybe doing it while it's hot so the thermal paste will be softer? Or would air already be in making it useless?

It's worth a try pushing the pins in further if you can, though I would do that with the pc off. Warm may work a bit better, just wouldn't attempt it while the pc is on.

So would it be best to leave it at about idle temps then turn it off and disconnect then push the pins right? Thank you I hope that was the problem.
