Question Ready to upgrade 7700

I'm getting ready to upgrade I currently have 7700 (Z170a) that served me well. Also have a 2070 that I don't believe I ever got true potential from and may replace as well.

My questions are would it be better do go 12th/13th I7 or go ahead and go I9. I've even searched and read on the 12th gen I5 which I believe is a good upgrade from what I currently have.

Any and all suggestions are welcome, I'm open to a AMD build but I've never owned an amd system.

I live in the US.

Budget, 1,000 being low maybe $2,500 being high if it's worth extra the next few years. Monitor is a Asus 278.

My PC's usually outlast there usefulness in terms of game updates and and now video editing which I enjoy. Even the setup now is ok for most games with slightly reduced settings but of course being a vintage system my todays standard frame drops etc, needless to say video editing is time consuming.

I've got multiple old cases that I would love to modify at my fab shop one being an old inspirion 530 (old celeron still works) that would be neat to modify. Of course time consuming space would be limited and would need heavy modifications that would part of fun though.

If you can wait until the end of April when the RTX 4060 is due for release you would be looking at something like this. Keep in mind the price of DDR5 continues to drop on an almost weekly basis so there's a decent chance you could get into a DDR5 build for about the same cost as this build by then.

When buying new, go with current gen. 13th gen intel processors are some 15% better in price performance vs. 12th gen,

I3/I5/I7/I9 no longer indicate how many cores and the presence of hyperthreading.
They are more of an indication of performance capability.

Any 13th gen processor you buy will be a very big jump in capability.
Think at least twice as capable.

It has 16 processing threads and a passmark rating of 26206/3836.
Your I7-7700 has 8 threads and a rating of 6371/2074.
The last number is for single thread performance.
That is what games need most and is what makes the desktop quick.

Do not buy the F version for a measly $14 savings. Integrated graphics can be a life saver if you have a discrete graphics card issue.

I might think the $300 I5-13600K would be a good choice.
