ok first of all like to thank everyone this site is quite awesome! long time computer guy, first time poster up here...
my setup:
ASUS 990fx r2 24gb ram
fx-8320 (stock not overclocked)
3 physical drives (1TB WD-green, 4TB Seagate, & 256gb Kingston SSD)
NVidia 770
my question:
I don't have any problems with my rig, just looking for a little comparison with "real world" numbers, how fast of a transfer rate do people get when coping files from 1 drive to another?! I average 150-160MB/s sometimes its 600MB/s but for only the first few seconds, then it drops down to the average speed for the remainder. not complaining just more curious about others experience.

I do play the occasional game, but my setup is mostly for a home business & media server. no problems with windows 8.1, boots up in a matter of seconds... just seems like coping should be a little faster on average. I know my setup isn't "top-of-the-line" but its a beast for me, my first computer was an IBM 8086 on a monochrome CRT, so anytime I get frustrated I just remember how things used to be...

Cheers!

this pretty much happens with almost all ssds. when copying the 600MB/s are the "burst rates" so to speak and ssds dont last at these rates for long.
however there are newer ssd 's being developed that will have more consistent rates in the future.

For realistic SATA 3 (6Gb/s) transfer rates you need to copy from an SSD to an SSD.

If you copy from an HDD to a SSD, or from an SSD to a HDD, then the results you described happening to you are normal.

Also if you copy from one location on an SSD to another location on the same SSD your transfer rates will also be slower than copying between 2 drives that are SSDs.
