Really bad internet speed and ping

Okay, so my internet on my new build has just gone really bad. On my 200 pound laptop, it loads pages in <2 secs but on my computer, it loads them in 30 sec to a minute! Sometimes not even loading them at all. Then when I play TF2 my ping in tf2 is 600-1000 which is seriously unplayable.

How can I fix this, so I can carry on my life?

Edit : I am using a wired connection, and my isp is BT.

Choose Start→All Programs→Accessories→System Tools→Resource Monitor. Assuming you are on windows, this should isolate if you have a program currently running that is hogging up your connection. I would guess malware of some sort, perhaps start with a scan using malwarebytes free edition or hijackthis and visiting hijackthis.de with the log file.

Also, how long has this problem been occuring? And is the lag on the desktop all the time or intermittent?

Yep, tried that, didn't work, although it is better, getting around 300-400 ping, still unplayable 🙁

Thanks if you have any other suggestions...

Run that eset scan... and maybe the malwarebytes scan. You should never have that significant of a delay to a local modem over an ethernet connection.

Have you run any malware scans? Can you please ping 192.168.1.254 for me too and post results?

Also -- you shouldn't have that many un-named ip addresses in there. That's most likely from some malware proxy settings.

Okay, done eset or whatever! Got rid of 17 items, but ping is still at 200 or so.

Done 192.168.1.254 and it just came up with my router. Around 500ms. Thanks again for all the help

If eset found 17 items you'll need to run some more malware scans. There is something seriously destroying even your LAN speeds. You're looking at a problem with your ethernet card and/or driver OR it's malware that has yet to be discovered on your PC. I suggest running Spybot Search and Destroy and Malwarebytes BOTH as there is no ONE tool to remove all infections on a PC.
I would also suggest a DNS flush

Good luck!

Done all of them

Hasn't changed much, thanks for all your help but my mum has called a PC technician to sort it out, thanks again!
