Here is the question that I am having the most trouble answering right now. I have read a lot about processors in the past few days and people have told me since I am sending around $2750 on building a new computer that I should get Haswell. I have read some sites saying that Ivy bridge can be better then Haswell. But recently I read that the Sandy Bridge processors are better for games like WoW, which is the game I will be playing the most.

So should I get the i7-4770k w/ASUS Maximus Hero or should I get the i7-3820 w/ASUS Rampage IV Extreme? Or is it worth the extra to get the i7-3930k?
Either the rest of the parts wont change.

For just gaming, you won't even need that 4770k, never mind an extreme processor like those! I'd just go with a 4670k and then spend the other money on an awesome GPU setup. If you plan on rendering videos, then by all means, grab a 4770k. If not, the i5 performs identically in-game.

A lot of people have said go for the latest technology and I was going to until I read that for MMOs like WoW, the PC benefits from the sandy bridge i7-3930k over any of the newer CPUs because of the 2 extra cores and cache.

You could run WoW on highest settings with a $1000 PC. If you have that amount of cash, then by all means, go for the 4770k. When games start utilising more threads you'll be set. But for WoW you'll be set with either the 4670k or 4770k and a decent GPU.

I just want to make sure that I wont ever have to upgrade because of future updates/expansions to WoW.
So is there any benefit to the Sandy bridge? Which would be best Sandy, Ivy, or Haswell?

Getting Sandy Bridge-E, we're talking an extra $250 for another few fps? The difference won't even be noticeable. I would go with Haswell, purely because it's the current gen of Intel's processors and it's upgradable to Broadwell, whereas you cannot upgrade Ivy.

Generally speaking more cores is always better for most cases.

Will you notice any differance real time, doubt it.

Latest technology at a cheaper price is always a plus+

Now if you were going to start F@H I'd say go for the 6 cores.

If not I would also say go 4770k.
