Really noob question about HDMI on PCs!

Hi Guys,

I was wondering, if I am using the HDMI on my Radeon card output for video AND sound, does using a sound card make a difference to the quality of sounds? cause as far as i can see the sound output is simply using "ATI HDMI" and not any of the Asus DX things, and when I adjust settings such as the equalizer in the Asus DX control panel it doesn't change the sound at all, does this mean there is no point in using the sound card with this computer?

The sound that comes out is digital and lets whatever device you hook it up to process the sound that is why you cant adjust any sound enhancements for it.
