This is for a computer that belongs to a friend of my son, but I helped with the build.
It's been running great for about a year but recently it will only boot on occasion, and when it does boot it usually will not go past the mobo screen. Everything else at the house, including an xbox and an older PC work just fine. Tried multiple outlets, etc.
First thought was the PSU, which was an older one I had supplied, so I took the computer to my house and it booted up fine. Replaced the PSU anyway with a new one, still worked perfectly at my house but the same problem at the owners house.
Absolutely nothing when you try to start it, but will occasionally boot to the mobo screen.
My next thought was that something was going on with the electricity to the house. Took a CyberPower CP1500AVR over but same issue. Shows 122V coming in. PC still won't boot.
So I'm at a bit of a loss, PSU is brand new, since everything works perfectly at my house it shouldn't be the hardware, this would seem to leave an electrical issue, but no change when hooked up to an AVR.
Something getting jostled in transit is always a possibility of course, but so far the PC has traveled between houses 3 times with consistent results. Works at one house, doesn't work at the other.
Tried replacing the motherboard battery. Strangely enough, the PC will now more frequently boot to the BIOS screen (but often still won't progress past it) and still occasionally boot in full.
