Really Stuck On Getting A New Monitor

I've been using the same monitor for 10 years now and it's pretty bad.

I originally wanted a g-sync 144hz 24" monitor but the majority I found had terrible reviews.

What I did find was a g-sync 240hz 24" monitor with amazing reviews. My only worry is that while some games I will be able to hit 240fps, there will be games I can't and as time goes on and new games come out this will be even harder.

I get how g-sync works but I am worried there is a limit to this. Like if I hit 80fps in a game, would that being so far away from 240 make the game really stuttery even with g-sync?

My other option is a non g-sync 144hz monitor. For the large majority of games I can hit 144fps easily but again as time goes on, new games will make this harder. Is this going to ruin the experience?

I guess it comes down to 240hz when for a lot of games I may not hit 240fps but with g-sync or a 144hz monitor without g-sync and hope it's not to bad.

Thanks in advance for any help.

The purpose of G-Sync (nVidia) and Freesync (AMD) is to make games run smooth and shutter free in almost every scenario. If your video card is strong enough to deliver to the monitor over 50-60 FPS, image is always good and shutter free. It doesn't matter if your 80 FPS are far of the monitor maximum 240 FPS. The game will run very well at 80 FPS. If you are going to game I recommend your next monitor to have either, G-Sync (if you have nVidia video card) or Free Sync (if you have AMD card). Without these variable refresh rate technologies on your monitor, your game will likely shutter.
