Realtek audio driver is lowering microphone quality.

Firstly, my microphone sounds perfectly fine on my laptop which has led me to believe that the mic itself isn't actually faulty.
However when I plug the same mic into my PC, the audio sounds awful; when first talking into the microphone my voice sounds ok but then slowly starts to fade out and become distorted as though I'm covering it in a plastic bag.
I thought that perhaps it was a problem with the soundcard however my Logitech speakers sound perfect and after disabling* the Realtek audio driver my mic sounds crystal clear - just as it did on my laptop.
*I can't remember exactly what I did - disable/uninstall/reinstall/update - but it temporarily fixed the microphones audio quality until I restarted my PC which probably reset the driver.
I don't know if any of this has made sense but I'm led to believe that the Realtek (or perhaps Nvidia?) audio driver is lowering the sound quality. Any help solving this issue or finding a workaround would be massively appreciated.

Nevermind, it was just me being dumb. Disabling the 'noise suppression' sound effect in the microphone properties seemed to fix the problem. Thanks for the suggestion though Robert Ban.
