Hello all, I have been searching round and cant quite find an answer to my issue so I am hoping you guys can help out.

Whenever I plug in my headphones Realtek only detects them as speakers so the sound just continues to play out of the built in speakers of my TV. If I then go into the playback options via control panel and set the supposed "speakers" as the default then all is well and I can everything fine through my headphones. When I then unplug the headphones the sound does not switch the the speakers on my TV, it appears that it is still trying to playing it via the "speakers". There is also no option under the playback tab for headphones, I have checked under disconnected and disabled devices, still nothing for headphones.

Now I have tried going into device manager and setting the driver from the realtek hd audio to the high definition audio device and this works fine if I use the front headphone port as under the playback tab they display as headphones but when I plug them into the rear port they only show as speakers again.

I tried updating the realtek driver and this does not appear to made any changes at all. Any help would be much appreciated, thanks.

Thanks for the response, have you got any idea where this setting is as I cant seem to find it. The only things I have under options on realtek:

Notifications;
Disable icon in notification centre

Connector settings;
AC97 fron panel or hd audio front panel
enable auto popup dialog

Recording device;
tie up same type of input jacks
separate all input jacks as independent input devices
