Hi all
I feel this is a hardware issue but I may be wrong.
My old aurora r3 alienware desktop lost its connection to the internet last night. Running windows network diagnostics (windows 10) gives a message that it cannot figure out what is wrong. The device is listed as working correctly in the device manager.
I have:
  1. uninstalled, reinstalled the device
  2. scanned for malware
  3. changed the ethernet cable
  4. plugged the pc directly into the verizon router
  5. rebooted the machine
  6. All other devices on the network including those plugged into the switch this was originally plugged into are working fine.

The orange light is on where the ethernet plugs in.

Some background information:
Connection: wired currently directly into verizon router (g1100)
desktop: Aurora r3 running windows 10 (cannot update due to chipset limit)
realtek family gb pcie

if this thread belongs in hardware please let me know.
Any help is appreciated. I can certainly provide more information if needed. My gut is telling me the nic card is dead. After all, this is an 8 year old pc :)
thank you for reading.

I had an old wifi usb adapter but it is dead too :)
I think I need to open up the desktop to see what slots I have, I should be able to find a cheap NIC and I can just disable the onboard one, right?
