Hey All,

I recently bought a new ethernet cable and tried plugging it in, But it just shows No Internet
searched the internet and found out the driver that my computer uses is the Realtek GbE Family Controller
pic 1 pic 2
Cable Specifications
I'm using Windows 10
Did some troubleshooting:
1. I Tried updating the driver using a program called DriverEasy still no internet
2. I tried uninstalling the Realtek Gbe Family controller driver and restarting, still no internet
3. I tried downloading the PCI GBE name: Realtek PCI GBE Ethernet Family Controller Software auto installation program from the official realtek website then restarted, Still no Internet
I do not have a second computer or laptop to test if the ethernet cable itself is the problem sadly nor do I have access to a different ethernet cable
Would greatly appreciate if anyone has any insight on what I can do to fix this issue.
Thanks!

It is not likely a driver issue or a cable issue if the port is in a connected state.

Try the command
IPCONFIG /all

I suspect the port will be in a connected state which means the hardware and drivers are ok. What do you see in the IP address field. If it starts with 169.x.x.x that means it did not get a IP address from your router.

Is the cable plugged into your router directly or is there some other device in the path.

You could try to assign a IP manually. This might hide the problem with dhcp. You need to know the IP of your router. Say it is 192.168.0.1. You can go to the IPv4 setting and put in a IP of 192.168.0.250 with a mask of 255.255.255.0 and a gateway of 192.168.0.1.
Set the dns to 8.8.8.8. If your router IP is different change the above based on your router ip.

the ip address field starts with a 7.xxx.xxx.xxx, never seen that before, same with the default gateway and dhcp server, also i noticed under the "Windows Ip Configuration" it shows
node type: Hybrid
IpProuting enabled : No
WINS proxy enabled : No

Something is very wrong if you get that IP address.

This is acting like you plug directly into a modem with no router. Problem is 7.x.x.x IP addresses are not valid on the internet. They are allocated to the department of defense and never appear on the internet.

Maybe you have a router that is misconfigured.

i see, im trying to get access to our home wifi router settings, will try and get an update on what happens, i did the manual ip assignment and now it says unidentified network. thank you very much I finally feel like im making progress!

UPDATE: Checked the router settings, everything seems fine, saw the IP Address Listed started in 192.xxx.xxx.xxx so I figured router was fine, I switched the cable so it was plugged into Lan Slot 1, instead of Lan Slot 4 ( I plugged it in 4 because of physical issues) and it worked. I feel so stupid for not doing the obvious and fastest solutions first , anyways, wouldn't have solved it without your help, Thank you very much and I hope you have a good day/night! Cheers
p.s
does this mean I cant ever use the 4th lan slot? or is there a built in "You have to use slot 1 before using slot 2 and so on mechanism in my router"

The lan ports on a router are the same as simple switch, they are all the same.

Not sure why it would make any difference. It is possible to physically damage a port but it is not very common.

What you had was very strange. A physcial issue normally the port is disconnected or maybe it works but a 100mbps rather than gigabit. For it to just not pass data is not a common port failure.
