I just bought some logitech z506 speakers and i'm trying to set up the surround sound. i downloaded the realtek hd audio drivers (from here http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/) to help set up 5.1 surround sound but i can't open them. everyone is saying that they should appear in the system tray but they aren't. they definitely installed, as i can find them in installed programs in control panel. help?

I'm using win8.1 64 bit and my mobo is a Gigabyte ga-78lmt-usb3. it says it's 5.1 compatible but i'm not sure i trust it.

Don't download audio drivers. You should always download the drivers from your motherboard manufacturer. Uninstall the audio drivers you currently have and install the new ones.

Look here, under "Support & Downloads": http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4305#ov

Also, see up at the top where it says "(rev. 4.1), rev. 6.0, rev. 5.0?" Make sure you choose the revision your motherboard is, go the webpage of that revision, and then go to "Support & Downloads."
