Any headphones working on other devices not working on my PC.

Happened after a windows update. Not saying the update caused the issue, but it stopped working right after it. Talking about the feature update that came near the end of May.

No audio output from the PC. Sounds->playback has 4 devices listed, 2 of them greyed out, "not plugged in". The other 2 are of steam, mic and speaker. Here is the screenshot.

After looking at the web, sites suggested, reinstalling the audio driver, but that did not work. Removing the device from the device manager and let windows install the driver, that didn't help either. Sites also suggest setting the High Definition Audio Device as default, but that option is greyed out in my case.

Any help regarding this will be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Edit: when i run an audio file, the steam speakers lit green in sounds->playback, but still cannot hear anything on the headphones.

Solution

1. 5 Things. One with exclamation mark. Here's the pic.
2. I don't use them. I once allowed my friend to stream the game I was playing. That's all. And disabling them just...disables them, no effect on the other two AMD and Realtek HD Audio device.

Also, thanks for the reply.

1. What is the name of your motherboard?
2. Right click on the device with the yellow exclamation mark and choose properties. See if you can identify what the device is. "AMD High Definition Audio Device" could be your video card, "Realtek High Definition Audio" could be your motherboards audio chip, but i'm not sure what the other device would be.
3. If you have no more use for the Steam Streaming Microphone & Speakers, right click and uninstall them, they may be causing a problem. You can always reinstall them in the future if you ever need them again.

1. Intel DH55Tc

2. "Right-click on the device with the yellow exclamation mark and choose properties." -> What after that..? Should I remove/uninstall this device? The general tab has an error. Here are the pics of all tabs. I see in the events, last activity on the day of Windows 10 feature update.

2. About Identifying the others, yes, I have an AMD video card, so "AMD High Definition Audio Device" is definitely from the video card. And Realtek one would be from the motherboard.

3. Remove them by right-clicking and "Uninstall device"? Will that affect steam? I'm not much concerned about steam but just would like to know.

Thanks again.

First right-click on the device with the yellow exclamation mark and choose Update Driver Software and let Windows do it automatically. If that does not work then choose Uninstall and reboot. Windows should reinstall the device once again. If that does not work, i don't know what to do because i still don't know what the device is.

Instead of uninstalling Steam Streaming Microphone & Speakers, just Disable them, you can enable them again if Steam is affected.

I have tried this before. Did it again anyway. The windows say the latest update of the device is already installed. I cannot turn off my PC at the moment, so will do the "Uninstall and reboot" as soon as I'm able and will get back to you. May take a day.

Thank You very much for your continuous help rocktalkrock. I'll replay again soon.

Okay, I did this and unfortunately, this solved nothing.

If we leave the Exclamaition mark device aside, can't we do anything about the Realtek and AMD devices? And what about the error (code 10)?

Disabling steam speaker and mic leaves the sound icon in the notification area with red cross.

In your original post you said the problem started right after a Windows update near the end of May. The support page link below for this motherboard shows it does not support Windows 10, only up to Windows 8.1. You may not be able to get this motherboard to work properly with Window 10.

Oof. Well, this sucks.

So should roll back to the previous update? How to do that and how to make sure windows never update again... I've heard it forces the updates.
