Realtek Network Controller Missing

Specs:
AMD FX8350 4.0Ghz
ASUS M5A99FX Pro R2.0
8GB HyperX Blu (2x 4GB)
XFX AMD R9 270X Dual Dissipation
Corsair CX750M
1TB HDD
64GB SSD

I turned my computer on and my Ethernet hardware is no longer recognized it seems. Tried installing drivers for it from ASUS' website and I got the error message: "The Realtek Network Controller was not found. If Deep Sleep Mode is enabled Please Plug the Cable."

However I can't disable Deep Sleep Mode (whatever that is) because I can't even see my Realtek Network Controller under Device Manager.

What I have tried so far:
- Turn off computer, flip PSU switch off, wait 15 minutes, reboot.
- Turn off computer, flip PSU switch off, remove CMOS battery, remove RAM, wait 15 minutes, replace CMOS battery and RAM, reboot.

None of these troubleshooting methods have any effect on the issue.

Thoughts?

NOTE: You may notice I am connected to the internet, contrary to what my problem would imply. This is thanks to my spare USB WiFi Adapter I plugged in.

Thanks.

Asleep or not the device normally will accept the driver. Windows sees your other devices so it seems that the OS is communicating with the MB bios. Sadly you may have a device failure. Please let me know after you contact ASUS as they have been very helpful in past contact. GL Happy Holiday

Check in your bios settings and see if the device is listed and enabled. If it is try disconnecting and reconnecting the Ethernet cable; try a new cable; when a cable is plugged in, does the port illuminate. There is a MB feature called "Network IControll", check to make sure it has not some how shut the network down. In device manager, right click the network adapter category and try the scan for hardware changes option. It is possible the chip has failed. As a last resort contact ASUS tech support and request a RMA.

Device is listed and enabled in the BIOS.

Disconnect and reconnect had no effect.

New cable had no effect.

Port does illuminate when plugged in.

I can't find this "Network iControl" feature. Can you tell me how I would go about accessing it?

Other ideas? Would re-installing windows do anything?

Try this; unplug the system from the wall (with power off of-course) and remove the battery from the MB. Wait about 5-10 min and put battery back in; plug system in the wall and restart. This should reset everything to bios defaults. I think the device has gone into deep sleep. If it comes back you will want to go to the properties tab for it in Device manager and disable any power saving options that permit it to be put to sleep. You might try to expand the "Show Hidden Devices" tab in Device Manager also. If you find it there see if you can access the properties tab. If still no success read (http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-hardware/realtek-network-controller-was-not-found-various/582d0825-e2c3-41b6-926a-40eb77e0e7a8) and look at method #4. GL No do not reinstall windows at this point. That would be a last resort and would mean you must reinstall everything. Your system seems to be ok just need to wake the device up.

Just found this on a Windows forum:
For bringing the Realtek Newtwork Adapter out of deep sleep it has been suggested that you pull out the RAM Sticks for about 10 minutes and then put them back again. This should wake up the computer. It has also been suggested that you take out the CMOS battery for about 30 minutes and then plug it in again if pulling out the RAM Sticks does not work. This would surely wake up the computer.

However when the adapter is awake, go to "Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections" and open the Local Area Connection Property Sheet. Then click on the Configure Button and open the Power Management Tab. There uncheck the "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power". Once you have done that the Realtek Newtwork Adapter would never go to sleep again.

Okay, sorry I've been away. Christmas errands and what-not.

This is what I have just done:

- Computer shutdown and unplugged

- MB battery and RAM sticks removed

- Set timer for 30 minutes

- Replace RAM and battery

- Plug everything back in, press power button

- Computer boots successfully

- Realtek Network Controller still not listed under Device Manager

- Here is a photo of all the Network adapters listed, including hidden ones, after doing what I listed above

I might add that this computer is only about 4 months old.

I do not even have the Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller, and I don't know which one to download. I had uninstalled it under some vague advice I found elsewhere online, and was under the impression it would re-install itself upon reboot, but that did not happen, and I am unsure which one I should download from Realtek to get it back. At that, I don't even know if it can install, with my computer not even recognizing the Ethernet port anyways.

Use the second if Win8.x and the first if other Win ver. (http://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/M5A99FX_PRO_R20/HelpDesk_Download/). Have you tried calling ASUS? They may be able to help. You have done about all the things that should work. The chip may have gone bad.

I have tried installing the drivers before, the issue is that once installed, the drivers do not detect the device they are intended for, meaning that the system does not recognize the existence of the LAN port at all. I guess my next step is to contact ASUS and convince them to grant me an RMA.

Well, it seems the chip was simply busted. I don't know how, I don't know why, but I guess these things happen. I did an RMA with ASUS, just had to pay for shipping it to them, and I got it back in about a week. Everything seems to be working fine now, thanks for the help.
