Realtek No Audio through HDMI to Monitor

Alienware 17 R4 laptop, Windows 10 pro. The monitor is an LG ultrawide. Audio Manager shows the option for Realtek Speakers and Headhones, LG Ultrawide-8 (Nvidia HD), Nvidia HD Output (unplugged). I've tried all of these without any results. Both Nvidia under output properties say they are HDMI Digital Jack. I would like to use one of these.

I'm an idiot! The solution is make sure the monitor you think you should be hearing sound from has built in speakers.

I was just about to ask you that - - it's a very common oversight I've replied to many times on this forum.

Monitor speakers are generally rubbish anyway, though marginally better than most laptops I suppose.
But if you're going to have your lappy tethered to an external monitor anyway, you may as well go the whole hog and get some decent desktop speakers too.

Curious enough the Alienware laptop speakers are amazing! I just hooked up the JBL LSR305 monitors and they are as good as folks say. Thanks for the response!
