hi,
i am using a Realtek RTL8188CU wifi usb dongle for the past 2 years. it works fine when i create an open network with my mobile, but when ever i try to connect it with a WPA2-PSK network it does not connect. when i went into the details i found that the options does not contain any WPA2 PSK but it has WPA PSK and data encryption option of tkip or wes. i do not have these options in my hotspot menu of mobile.
kindly help.

The wireless encryption type options (WPA PSK or WPA2 PSK or WEP) can only be changed in your router settings, they won't appear on a mobile phone's wireless settings or on a wireless device such as USB WiFi dongle.

You must open your router's configuration utility, go to the wireless section and change the encryption to a type which your mobile phone and dongle supports. All devices support WEP encryption but that's very weak encryption (easily hacked) so try to avoid it.
Choose WPA PSK then save and exit your router config utility.

If you don't have a wireless router but instead connect to an external wifi hotspot, you have no control over the encryption type that's being used.

thanks a lot for the reply. but i use a usb dongle to connect my desktop and wifi hotspot from my mobile.

i have only two options in the hotspot configuration.
1. open
2. WPA2 PSK

but the desktop has a lot options.
1. authentication
a. open
b. WPA
c. WPA PSK
d Shared

2 Encryption
a. WEP
b TKIP

what ever combination i use , the dongle does not connect with the hotspot in secured mode. but it does when the security is open.
so where is the problem ? Does the usb wifi hardware support WPA2 PSK ? or is it the problem with win XP ?
i could not find WPA2 PSK in the dongle hardware configs.
plz help
