RealTemp shows very high temps!?

I'm doing all this with Firefox and realtemp being the only main program open.

Laptop is a HP Pavilion dv6
My pc is on a fan laptop tray thing, so it doesn't have a hard time getting air. - Room temp approx 77-74F.

(800x600 resolution) <-- this is gross

CPU is staying around 79-87C for the most part, occasionally breaks 90C for things like word or when I use Google Chrome using the same web pages as Firefox, Google makes me run bit hotter.

I just put another large fan directly next to it, temps are now 74-81C. - hitting 71-72 a couple times (kinda loud)

Do not see any dust problems.

Past warranty. If needed I can open it up (buy a custom pc fan if I can.. stupid stock crap), I have a few thermal compounds, arctic silver ceramique, arctic silver 5, and IC7 Diamond. Any recommendations for a laptop cpu?

(Was running 1080p screen with 79C as the max) Now it's running 720p with 85-90s.

Try artic silver, clean off with rubbing alcohol & re-apply.

that is extremely hot. if you can safely take it apart see if a fan has stopped, or if you can reapply the thermal paste do that.

a teardown and solid cleaning are probably just prudent at this point, I would get a vacuum or some compressed air to try and clean some of those heatsink fins if you can.

Take the side panel off and use a desk or window fan to blow air inside the case ..... if temps change, you have a case cooling problem

i used to hold my old laptop up to the a/c vents when i had issues. in the house or sit in the car till i read what i needed
