Hi,

I built my computer yesterday with an i5 3570k and hyper 212 evo. when I originally applied the paste, the amount i put on was a little over pea size and when running intel burn test it hit 70c so i decided to redo it today.

So i reapplied using a slightly larger than grain of rice line to try and see if this would help. went to 68 on the IBT again so i thought it was normal. Im idling at 30-35 degrees though and when gaming im hitting around 50-60c on garrys mod.

this seems too high and i expected better from this cooler. Does it sound like im applying too much paste? Is there anything I can try to get the temps down. My brothers amd 6 core idles around 25 and never goes above 50.

thanks in advance.

Those temps are not bad ..... the Hyper 212 is a great budget cooler....emphasis on the word budget. For what it costs it does an amazing job, but ya can't expect it to compete with the likes of the Phanteks PH-TC14PE, Thermalright Silver Arrow or Noctua DH-14. The 212 gets recommended heavily here, not because it's the best there is, but because it's the best there is at $30.

Note the the 14C difference between the Hyper 212 and the biggies.
Phanteks PH-TC14PE - 51.75
Thermalright Silver Arrow - 51.25
Noctua DH-14 - 51.25
Hyper 212 - 65.75

thanks for your response

thanks, this is actually pretty reassuring. I realised also that the CPU is actually running at 3.8ghz (rather than the box advertised 3.4) I assume this is due to turbo mode, so this puts my mind at rest even more.

Hmm, after reading this I may invest at some point in the future but for now my mind is at ease.
Thank you all for your replies.
