Reasonable GPU Upgrade with my MOBO?

My initial plan was to upgrade my GPU (full specs to follow) considering my current setup so that's my main question. I obviously don't upgrade my computer build a lot (maybe every 3-4 years as you can tell).

What I've noticed is if I want to upgrade only my GPU. But that means I need a better PSU. Oh, and I really need to upgrade my CPU to prevent any bottlenecks with the new card. And while I'm upgrading my CPU I really should upgrade my memory to DDR4. And if I do that I'll need to upgrade my MOBO because mine doesn't support DDR4...Oh, and my case probably isn't big enough for that GPU... So, my 1 component has magically turned into a full build with all components lol.

Just an observation. I'll probably end up doing all of those things, but I am curious...

If I keep all but the PSU the same (upgrading to a 750W), what NVidia card can I legitimately upgrade to for some video editing and casual gaming?

CPU - AMD FX-4100 Quad-Core Zambezi
GPU - Nvidia GEforce 550 Ti (yeah)
MOBO - Gigabyte GA 970A-UD3
Memory - 16gb DDR3 2000mhz
Case - Corsair Carbide 300R

Thanks and sorry for the long-winded question and observation.

Well, your on FX still, so you can't do too much better than a GTX 780 or slower. An RX 480 will bottleneck the top end FX CPU's in anything CPU bound, so good luck.

Yeah, that's not much of an upgrade if I just do the GPU. Looks like a new build. Unfortunately, High-end GPU's have become ridiculously priced for well-documented reasons. I'll either wait just a bit or pick up an Nvidia 1060 and build around that.

Thanks for your response.

No problem, a Ryzen 3 build should do you nicely right about now. I can get you a price for a 1060 and a ryzen 3 build if you would like, i can get it done on PC parts picker in about 10 mins.

I just bookmarked PC Parts Picker. What a great site. I also found out that my Corsair 300R wouldn't have enough clearance for a 1060 card with the Noctua Monster NH-D15 cooler/heatsink. Absolutely love the compatibility feature. Thanks for pointing it out.

No problem, Its a fantastic website to put together a list of parts very fast and it should let you know if any parts wont fit or if anything special is needed.
