I purchased a brand new system late last year. My previous system for some reason had one hard drive and the GPU fail around the same time. I placed one of the old hard drives that was still working into this new system which then failed so now I just have the brand new system with nothing from the old computer, except my samsung monitor. This new system is:
intel core i5 quad core 3.4 GHz.
8 gigs of corsair vengeance
asus HD7850 GPU
gigabyte GA-Z77X motherboard
seagate barracuda 2TB HD
antec 1100 case

I have an older samsung T220 monitor. From almost the purchase date I started to have problems they could not reproduce in the store.

My monitor started to switch between digital and analog even after trying to select digital manually it still did not work, I have googled this at length and it seems that many others have had problems with this monitor switching. Now it is at the point if I turn off the monitor it will not come back on. I have changed settings in windows to stop the monitor going off but I do not want my monitor constantly on if I am away for an hour or so and the computer is on. Even then I still find occasionally the computer displays the following error.
Also randomly every now and then the computer displays Reboot and select proper boot device error. In the BIOS it is booting from the DVD first and then the HD. If I place the windows 7 dvd into the drive after the error message comes up and I hit a key it boots into the windows setup screen but then it freezes.

I did notice when I plugged this computer into my panasonic plasma 42" if I turned off the TV it would not come back on occasionally.

I am not well versed in BIOS settings etc...I am decent with computers but definitely not advanced.

Any idea if these two errors are connected and how can I diagnose once and for all.

Is it possible the monitor is dying and causing these errors, how can I lose two harddrives, a GPU and a monitor in less than a year.

Please help me because the store where I bought this cannot help me.

cheers,

did you ever check out the psu you were using? could it be a overheating issue? As for the psu and without proper surge protection and depending where you live, you could be getting horrible dirty electricity (power surges) i know my older brother down in florida experiences the issue alot. Also the psu could be going bad and causing the malfunction of your gpu and HDs. One last thing is, it could be the hd's and gpu have just gone bad, it happens.

Could this be connected to the monitor problem though. I just blew some dust from the PSU on the bottom. We moved houses so my old computer died in one house and this new computer is giving me problems in this new house. Same city though.

With the case I have and the minimal parts I have in there overheating should not be a concern I was told.

i think it's your psu, if your psu is making your gpu go crazy and not sending a signal, which would cause your monitor to shut off, as for hte analog to digital, what cable are you using to connect you monitor to your gpu, dvi? or are you using vga to dvi adapters?

just using a dvi cable. If you look on google though there are quite a few people talking about this switching issue but I am trying to figure out if it is the monitor and how it is related to the boot device error.

I am also wondering why nothing happens when I am using the computer. It is only when I leave the computer alone and come back to it. For example I just left it for twenty minutes. I came back and the monitor came back on but then the desktop disappeared except for the background and then it went to the boot device error message. Normally to turn off the computer from the desktop I have to hold the power button but when I get this error message as soon as I hit the power button the computer turns off.

thanks
