I just finished building my new PC and once I start it up it, it gets past bios page and immediately goes to reboot and select proper device, I've set the boot device priority to my optical drive ALSO my USB fash drive, I tried both ways to install windows, I unplugged my optical drive and my hard drive cables as well as sata cables and nothing has changed, im starting to think that my motherboard has something wrong with it, please help I really need the help. Thank You

what do you exactly mean by secondary controller? please help dude I really need to fix this problem. and I've set everything correctly in the boot device I put CD-ROM as 1st priority an my HDD as Second Priority, still same thing but my SATA cables on my motherboard are in scattered order, does that have anything to do with the problem?

What kind of MB and BIOS do you have? My bios allows me to set the boot priority, i.e. 1.) USB 2.) HDD. But if I have more than one drive hooked up, I have to go to another menu and further prioritize those drives (so my SSD has a higher boot priority than my HDD).

Are you trying to install an OS? Are you using an installation CD or USB?

my motherboard is ASUS M5A78L-M LX PLUS and it has this weird EZ Flash 2 Bios im guessing it has something to do with that, this thing is driving me nuts, I have it right now beside my brother's computer trying to fix it, please help I trie both USB and CD OS install

Im going to take out my graphics card to take out the Motherboard battery and unplug all Sata cables for 10 minutes as this solution worked for another person while ago I was searching for my problem.

Good questions arbalest16 (I was about to ask the same questions...) 🙂

Maro, with arbalest16 comment in mind, I suggest you plug your SATA cable to the second lowest port available, for example 1 (not 0) and plug your disc/optical drive into 1 (you will need to check your motherboard manual for the correct ports). In general, when installing an OS, you should boot from your disc/optical/cd rom drive, go through the entire installation process, then after the installation is complete, go back to your motherboard bios and set your HDD to primary boot device. I also suggest removing any other additional disc drives during the installation process to minimize any problems.

I just tried what you suggested me, but unfortunately I get the same Reboot and device error, any other suggestions? I would be really thankful, I need this machine up and running by end of today as I have lots of work and projects to get done with it, please help.

Hello Maro44,
It depends on your motherboard...but try the following options:

1. Connect your HDD to Sata 0 on your motherboard. (Do not plug any other disc drivers, USB, SSD for now, just your HDD). Then boot the computer and keep an eye open while the system boots up. Be ready to hold F2 or Del to go into your BIOS. Once in your BIOS, simply check to ensure the HDD has been detected. Assuming it's detected, exit the BIOS and turn off your PC. Now connect your DVD burner (make sure the power cord is also properly/firmly connected too), plug in the DVD Burner to SATA 1 and turn on your PC. Again, keep an eye open during the system boot-up and get back into the BIOS. As before make sure the DVD Burner is detected, if it is, then set it as the "Boot Drive". Then save and exit the BIOS.

Now, place your OS installation disc in the DVD burner and reboot the system. The Windows installation process should start automatically... 🙂

2. If the above doesn't work, simply switch the SATA connections. In other words, connect the DVD Burner to SATA 0 and the HDD to SATA 1.

I hope the above helps you Maro44. Good luck

Warsam Im really gonna sound stuiped but I've been trying to figure out what SATA 0 is, I've done some research and all I end up with is RAID 0 im not sure how to exactly set my HDD in bios to raid 0 as this Is my first time EVER dealing with motherboard setup and new hard drive. Thanks for cutting from your time for me.

its ok your not dumb.... on the board there are the stata ports were you hook up your drives lets say you got 6 they are numbered lets say 1-6 or 0-5 depending on your board your manual will show and tell how they are on your board... so its like you dont want your primary or 1st boot device pluged into sata port 4 just put them in order first boot device in sata port1 2ed boot device in sata port2 and so on now some boards have a e-sata controler you dont want to use it for this .. there ports most times are a differant color them the primary sata ports... i hope i stated this right and understandable..

No my motherboard doesn't have e-sata, but it has sata 1-6 3G's this problem is really getting to me and after hours of research still no hope, please if it's possible to get into a facebook chat with me to fix this problem, Tomshardware forum take a lot, and I only have half a day to fix this problem right before I need my pc.

ok try this hook up only the harddrive that you boot on nothing else.. in sata1 go to bios and boot menu then boot option piorites and check that that drive is there and ok that then save and re boot.... if that fails restart and go back to were it says boot override and click the drive and it will force that drive to boot .. now one moer thing is your drive set up for achi or ide?? if youd rive is set up for ide and the bios sata ports are ahci it will not boot reguardless so that may need to be changed if all this fails???

Thanks Alot, i got my PC up and running ! 😀 The problem was my Windows CD which actually wasnt a " reall " fully functioning one, i had gotten it from a friend, i took my PC to my cousin and he installed an original copy 😀 Thanks alot for suggestions guys.
