I built my custom PC over a year ago, no issues/problems at all. This morning I booted up my PC and I was prompted to a screen that said "Reboot and select proper boot device" and this message kept popping up. After I searched online a bit, I acknowledged the fact that this is a common mishap. The solution was to go in BIOS and select a primary boot device, in this case my HDD. I rebooted my PC and was prompted to the ASUS splash screen where it displays the words "press F2 or DEL to access bios." I tried about 36 times to get into BIOS and nothing worked, I would click f2 or DEL and the screen would immediately go black. Essentially, I have 2 problems here...I need to access BIOS to select a proper boot device, which is easy, and I need to fix the "Reboot and select proper boot device" screen. I searched online a bit for these 2 issues and I found a couple "solutions."

The following are the solutions I've tried:
-Remove the CMOS battery and wait 15 minutes, replace battery and reboot. NOTE: I tried this and after I pressed f2 at the ASUS splash screen, it prompted me to an American Megatrends screen. This screen showed my specs and told me to click f1 to run bios setup. After I clicked f1, it black screened. I got further than before but the problem wasnt solved
-Try flash updating your BIOS with a USB. I tried this and it wont work with my PC because I cant access BIOS or windows to begin with
-Unplug the HDD and try to access BIOS, no luck
-Restarted my PC about 50 times and still no luck, same outcome

I really don't want to bring my PC into Geek Squad or something of that nature, I want to diagnose this myself but I'm close to giving up. I posted this thread because I cant find anyone with the same problem as me, even after all these supposed solutions. Its a shame my computer wont even start up or anything, my computer is legitimately useless. Its very odd that this happened now, since I've had this computer for over a year. Please help if you can, I don't know what to do with this PC anymore.

tl;dr My computer is inaccessible, I turn it on and go blank screen when I try to access bios and I cant login to windows either due to the "reboot and select proper boot device" screen.

These are my specs if they help:
ASUS m5a97 le r2.0
AMD FX 8350
Hyper 212 evo cooler
1TB HDD
600w PSU
Sapphire Nitro r9 390

Solution
your first issue is a bad hard drive. if it not moving or if it spining up and down it can lock up a mb. i would pull the hard drive power and data with the pc off and see if you can get into the bios. if not make sure there no other usb plugged into the pc other then mouse and keyboard. try with one ram stick and another video card. if the mb still blacks out with a test gpu in it. may have a bad mb or cpu.
