Hi, I am really struggling with my Toshiba laptop (Satellite C50D-B-120). Out of the blue, it has started coming up with this message on a black screen whenever I try to start it.

I have googled and managed to enter the Toshiba Setup Utility. In the Advanced option, I have gone to Change Boot Order, and the top option is HDD/SSD, as I understand it is supposed to be. On the Main screen in the setup, next to HDD/SSD it says Not Present. This doesn't sound right?!

I don't think I have any paperwork/restore cd or anything from when I bought it. Can anyone offer any help or advice at all?!!

Solution

First, find out what OS you have.

Second, get your hands on an ISO version of your operation system.
you can do this through torrenting sites, get one from a friend, most laptops should have a separate partition you can boot to that contains the installation files.

If you do not have a separate partition to boot to, and are able to get an ISO version of your operation system's installation CD, get this tool here, https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/windows-usb-dvd-download-tool

I believe your hard drive was
1.Corrupted by an improper shutdown
2.Disconnected cables to your hard drive (might want remove all power to your pc, open it up and check the cables for your hard drive if they are securely in place otherwise)
3.Failed hard drive (inoperable)

Follow was Tom said. If you don't have a recovery media for your version of windows

You will have to find one online (most likely in iso format and burn it to a usb or disc with a program called rufus or imgburn)
Then go into your bios boot tab and set to boot first from cd drive or usb and run the windows setup/repair options

1.The only way to tell is based on the product key you got for your system (do not post it here or anywhere)
2.How much ram came with your pc when you bought it? Its most likely 32-bit if under 4GB of ram and 100%
It's 64-bit if it was more than 4GB
