Reboot and Select Proper Boot Drive?

Hi,

I started up my computer this morning, with the message: "Reboot and Select Proper Boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key".

I have had this happen to me once before on December 28. (It is currently August 1).

In the BIOS, it says SATA Port 1 is not present (which is my SSD that has Windows 10 downloaded on it), and it recognizes SATA Port 2, which has my 2TB HDD on it. On Boot Priority, it has UEFI Hard Disk selected as primary boot drive, followed by my 2TB HDD. However, in the BIOS it has the HDD selected in red, and not the SSD. Under the "Hard Disk Drive BBS Priorities", it onliy shows "SATA2: ST2000DM001-1ER164" and Disabled.

My specs are as follows:
Intel Core i5-6600K @ 4.0Ghz (overclocked)
MSI Z170A Gaming M5 Mobo
1x16GB DDR4-2133 G.Skill Aegis RAM
MSI GeForce GTX 980
120GB Kingston SSD
2TB Western Digital HDD
600W 80+ Bronze EVGA PSU

All responses are greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Solution
Not that I know of.....if it's dead.

If it were at least working somewhat, there are tests....but dead is dead.....unless you want to try it on a third machine.....but two is a pretty good indicator.

Hi,

I have reconnected and disconnected the cables to the SSD twice. Now, my PC is going straight into BIOS. I will disconnect it and try it on anohter SATA port.

The SSD is not recognized, but it has the spot where the SSD would be (UEFI Hard Disk) as the first boot priority, and it is saved as such.

Yes, here is the link to the thread I posted in December: http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-3603577/reboot-select-proper-boot-device.html

**NOTE: In the old thread, I still had my old CPU**

I am going to try a new SATA cable and plug it into the different ports on my mobo, and see what happens. If that does not work, I will bring it to my friend's place where he has another PC that I can test it out on.

Yes, I will make sure to try it out on my friend's PC. I have contacted Kingston support as it is their SSD.

Hi, I have finally been able to test it out on my friend's PC. It did not detect it whatsoever. Is it dead?

Ok. Are there any other tests I can do before sending it off back to Kingston just to verify it is dead? I'm still very surprised that an SSD died before an HDD.
