I got this problem 1 hour ago and upto now , I'm still trying to find a solution for this . I was browsing on Google Chrome when my Windows Explorer froze but I can still browse Google Chrome . A minute after , the whole system crashed and sent me a BSOD . I tried restarting the PC and I got suprised when a notice "Reboot and Select Proper Device" popped out . Replacing the Starting Windows . I tried restarting my PC once again to see if my Hard Drive was still in the boot priority . It was not in there . Inside the boot priority was the CD/DVD Driver and some of the UEFI Drivers . My SATA Hard Drive was not in there . I tried replacing the SATA Cable with the 6GB/s Cable of the CD/DVD . This time , I saw that it was recognized by the BIOS . I saw my SATA Hard Drive there but it was outside the Menu of the BIOS so , I entered the boot priority of the BIOS to check if it was fixed but the boot priority settings was still the same . No SATA Hard Drive . Only the CD/DVD Driver and the UEFI Drivers . I haven't had a HDD Issue before . The HDD was functioning perfectly for 3 Years now . Only the CPU has problems before . Now , the HDD has too . If you need a photo my explaination up above , please tell me if that can help you understand my problem .

My Motherboard is MSI G43 Gaming (B75A) only 7 months old .
CPU is i3-2100 (3 Years Old)
HDD is Seagate with 500GB Capacity (3 Years Old)
8GB Kingston RAM (7 Months Old)

SATA II port ? How will I know if my motherboard has a SATA II port ? And the cable I'm using is a SATA II cable ? And how can I set the SATA to IDE ? Do you need a photo of the current state of my BIOS because I think it might help you comprehend more about my problem .

There's only 1 SATA III port. That is to the top right one. SATA III cable will have a wire like it has two sections attached to one. Also it'll say on the connector SATA 6gbps. That's a SATA III cable. What you need is a SATA II cable which doesn't have 6gbps mark and has a single wire.

To select SATA mode, you'll need to access BIOS and go to Advanced settings and you'll see SATA configuration or similar in the list provided.

I have a SATA II Cable and a SATA II port . It is the original port I was using before I troubleshooted 2 hours ago . I'll try to change it back to SATA II now .How can I enter SATA Mode on an MSI based motherboard ?

You'll need to press DEL kay to go into BIOS. Then go to advanced settings. And search for something like SATA configuration. And change the setting to IDE.

Please note that changing this settings will make the PC unbootable from the HDD selected. Reinstalling OS will solve that trouble.

I changed the cables but it still occurs . I found the SATA Mode and changed it to IDE . What will I do now ? And by the way , I'm just curious , what's up with Windows Checking the Consistency of my Hard Drive ? I'm always skipping that when I was still able to use the PC . Did it , in any possible way , contributed to this problem I have now or is it just another Windows safety checks ?
