I recently built my first pc with all new parts. I tested all of the parts outside of the case and was able to post. Built the pc in the case and used the Windows 10 Download tool to create a bootable USB to install windows. I know there are no issues with the bootable usb since I tested it on another computer.

When I plug in the bootable usb and turn on the pc, it shows the motherboard board splash screen, and then shows the windows logo with the circle loading dots. Before the dots can make a complete circle the pc shuts down and restarts. Once it reaches the windows logo with loading dots it restarts again. It will continuously reboot over and over making it to the same spot. In order to stop the reboot loop I have to turn off the power supply or hold on the power button for 5 seconds.

I never make it to any screen to start the installation. I also never get any error code or anything.

Parts:
i5-6600k
Cooler Master 212 Evo
Gigabyte z170m-d3h
16GB (2x8) Corsair Vengeance LPX at 2666
240GB SSD Adata SP550
1TB Caviar Blue HDD
750W EVGA power supply

No graphics card: Waiting to see rx480 benchmarks

Things I have tried: (in no specific order)
• Removed one of the ram sticks
• Removed the HDD
• Tried the HDD without the SSD
• Tried each of the ram sticks in each of the four ram slots
• Cleared CMOS
• Tried every single usb port on the motherboard as well as front panel
• Tried three different SATA cables
• Tried all SATA ports for the SSD
• Checked CPU for bent pins
• Checked for too much thermal paste
• Tried several usb drives, both 2.0 and 3.0

Turns out it has something to do with installing windows 10 on the ssd from the bootable usb. As soon as it tries to start the windows installation it starts the reboot loop. I can put in a regular hard drive, use the same bootable usb, and make it to the beginning of the windows installation process. Unfortunately, the only spare hard drive I have isn't mind, I just borrowed it to test. So I cannot complete the process to make sure that there is no reboot loop during the rest of the installation. I have no idea why it will work on the hard drive but not the ssd.

Do you think updating bios will only the bootable usb to install windows on the ssd?

I plugged the ssd into a different computer which already had an operating system on it and it was recognized. I could also save to it. I then reformatted it.

My case is similar to the link except on the windows screen, the loading dots circle for about 3 seconds then the computer restarts itself. It gets back to the same point and restarts itself. Over and over and over. I have let it restart over and over for about 20-30 minutes. Nothing changes.

can you put ssd into another PC as a secondary drive and do a quick format of it using disk management? it shouldn't need it but it has worked before.

Updating BIOS could help, it might allow motherboard to boot SSD, I am not entirely sure why it is not working now.

I see you posted on pcpartpicker, shame I can't find a solution so easily.

Yes, I put the ssd into a second computer and it was detected right away. I even created a folder and documents to see if I could write to it. After making sure that it was working properly, I did format it with disk management.

I have another ssd in a laptop. I am going to take that out and see if it reboots at the same spot or if it works. That way I should know if I need to rma the ssd or the motherboard. It just sucks that I will have to wait for the rma when my gtx 1070 is suppose to be here on monday or tuesday.

I had the same problem. I landed here in a google search. I swapped the memory sticks before opting in to the BIOS upgrade. It was the memory sticks. Interesting enough the memory was posting clean in the PE.

I have ran memtest86 from a bootable usb for 4 passes and had 0 errors

Memtest can pass on bad chips.

I guess I will pick up some extra ram to test it out.

Any answer to this? having the same issue. I managed to get it installed on the SSD just by chance. now sometimes it loads but then ill get stuck in the same reboot loop post bios at the windows icon. there is something about SSD's. some setting needs to be in place. i just cant figure it out

I am on the same boat here. Can't install windows 10 on a brand new Sandisk SSD. Windows setup DVD reboots itself while still showing the initial windows logo (about 3 minutes after boot starts). My MOBO is Gigabyte too.

I would suggest you start your own question as then more people will try to help you. Answer all these questions in your question post :)

How is DVD drive attached to PC? inside PC or external? If DVD drive is external it could be a driver problem associated with drive itself.

Have you tried a USB instead? download the Windows 10 media creation tool and use it to make a win 10 installer on USB

The DVD is internal, and was working ok (in fact I tried two dvd drives with same symptom). I haven't tried a USB install because I can't erase the contents of my USB flash drive 🙁
But I will follow your advice and start my own thread, thank you!

I been watching that thread you started. You might be best asking Gigabyte as it has to be something to do with the motherboard

Thanks for the hint, just opened a support ticket with Gigabyte. I forgot to say that I used Parted Magic using a Linux Boot disc, and Disk Health (a tool included with it) detect the SSD correctly and says that it's OK. Also, GParted (a partition tool included with Parted Magic) says that both the reserved and user partitions are OK. VERY VERY Strange.
