Hi guys, first sorry for my english

I'm tryng to learn how to manage raid volume. At work we have a Precision T7610 with a RAID 1 Hardware.

One of the two HDD was broken we removed and we have to replace that with a new one and rebuilt the array, but i'm not sure how proceed, becasuse lack of experience. For example i read some post that i need an hard disk with the same geometry of the old one, what it means?

I supposed i needed only an HD with the same dimension of broken one(2 TB) but from what i read they must have also other property in common.

Is it true?

i Suppose depends on the hardware, but exist some macro guide to download or read that help me how to do?. For example if I put the new hard disk in the slot where the broken one was, the system automatically the new hard disk as a part of the RAID 1 Array and start with the Syncronization, or I have to enter in the firmware that manage the array, assign the new disk to the array and manually start the Syncronization manually?

Sorry if I asked stupid things……but I’m a very newbie

Welcome to the community, giobaxx!

Yes, it's highly recommended to use the exact same HDD as your other RAID drive. Preferably the same specs and the same brand, otherwise your configuration will get bottlenecked to the slowest drive in the array and the capacity will be limited to the smaller hard drive as well.
The RAID 1 rebuilding itself usually happens automatically, and depending on the storage capacity, plus the amount of data, it definitely can take some time. So I'd advise you to be patient with it.
Another very important thing to do before tempering with the storage is to do a backup of the data stored in the RAID 1 array. You can use an external HDD or some other storage device that's capable to hold a copy of the data...

You can use an external HDD or some other storage device that's capable to hold a copy of the data until you re-build the RAID. Here's something you might find useful from your manufacturer's KB:
