Hello I was wondering if it is worth rebuilding my old pc. It is about 6 years old. The only thing I could salvage is the processor(core 2 quad q6700) and maybe the memory. I'm not sure if the memory would do any good because its ddr2. The motherboard is failing and so is the power supply and hard drive. The case is broken and the video card.... well that belongs in a museum. If not then what should I do with it? I'm thinking of saving the parts and telling my grandchildren the tales of ancient computers.

You could save about $50-$100 by re-using the case. With a new mobo, you will probably need a new processor, RAM and PSU. Since the GPU is ancient, and the hard drive is failing - you have the case and DVD/CD-ROM that still may be good.

When considering saving the case - look at airflow - it wasn't as important 6 years ago as it is today. If the case uses a proprietary mounting (not an ATX or micro-ATX, or if airflow is bad - I would not re-use it.

Now you are probably down to the CD/DVD - and being 6 years old, it may be PATA....so it probably won't work with new mobos. (2-3" Ribbon cable = PATA, SATA is the smaller cable about 1/2 inch).
