My second harddrive has just failed.

I currently have 1 x 240GB Kingston SSD with my OS on it, and am looking to add another Harddrive in for under £50.00

I would use this to store games on mainly and the difference of 500gb or 1TB shouldn't be too much of a problem for my storage needs if performance is worth it. I really want to know is it worth sacrificing 500gb space and a bit of eatra money to have an SSD instead of HD in terms of gaming performance and load times.

My old 5400rpm harddrive i did notice some stuttering during load times of new area in a game.

What size you get depends on what your needs are, I know how much space I am OK with, but no one aside from you can decide if faster storage is better than more storage for you.

I would think most people would think 500gb is plenty for programs unless they like to install 20 games on the system at once for some reason.
