[SOLVED] Received black screen asiking me to load disk to reboot.

I received a black screen asking me to load disk to reboot on computer running windows vista. I could not find original disk so I held power button down to restart. I got the option of hitting enter to boot up regular so I did that. I can hear that it is running and appears to be attempting to load up but it has been over 25 minutes and nothing has happened. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

If you have important data on that computer/laptop, your first order of business is to backup that data. Ask someone to help you in that, before you do more damage.

Try booting into safe- mode. If it boots than their is a way saving the current installation.
Do the following
STEP 1: Boot into Safe Mode by repeatedly pressing F8 on your keyboard
STEP 2: Select SAFE MODE
STEP 3: Login to an administrator account
STEP 4: Press WIN+R to open up a run dialog box
STEP 5: Type in CMD.EXE into run
STEP 6: In the command prompt, type in SFC /SCANNOW
STEP 7: When the scan is done, restart your PC
