looking for a device that will recieve a wi-fi signal from an AP and will rebroadcast its own local ssid and handle the routing capabilities. Could also be looking for something that receives wi-fi and provides a local ethernet connection that could then be plugged into a normal wireless router

Solution
What frequency wifi signal is received 2.4 or 5GHz? Do you have access to the primary router or do you need to just passively receive the signal and then re-broadcast?

My first thought is an ASUS RT-N66U with dd-wrt firmware in repeater bridge mode like THIS.
For this approach, an inexpensive and robust method would be a dd-wrt capable router used in client mode like THIS with another inexpensive router attached to one of its LAN ports in AP mode to provide the wireless radio. I expect that this would be a lot cheaper than buying a device that will do both in one box, although that is an option.

Thanks for your reply.

Do you have any recomendations as far as devices that do perform both inthe same box?
