I bought the 8700k off amazon and noticed that the box plus packing were mishandled and had no filler material/bubble wrap.
Is it safe to ship intel cpus with no filler. Is the packaging that sturdy? I'm just worried that this $300 dollar cpu was shipped like it was worthless and is now damaged.

Solution
i would say odds are good the CPU will be fine. especially since intel does not put the pins on the bottom of CPU's any longer. if the CPU has no physical damage then i'd say it will work.
Well the CPUs are fairly tough, but the unless there is damage to the outside of the CPU the only way to tell if it's broken or not is to try it in a system. Are you sure it's a legit 8700k? Sounds like you bought it from a 3rd party, and I don't think a normal person would ship that expensive of a CPU without protection.

EDIT: Oh, if the CPU is in its stock box then it's probably 100% fine. I thought you meant the bare CPU was in a box by itself and bouncing around inside.

My 6700k arrived the same way. Came in one of those fold up boxes and you could see the CPU box on both sides. I'm surprised it didn't fall out at any point. 2 years later and it still works fine.
