Question Recognizing RAM in Sabertooth 990FX R2.0

Background info first:

I bought a new video card (yay lowering prices!). 3060. I plugged it into my machine. Worked fine on first boot. Installed the software and drivers. Configured the LED colors (because... why not?). Then I rebooted my system for the first time after installation and configuration. It then decided it couldn't fully make it through BIOS. It would hang part-way through (code 99 on MSI 990FXA Gaming). I reset the CMOS, then proceeded to have a black screen of death - no post at all. I thought, hmm... maybe I killed the board resetting the CMOS. (Jumping ahead, I probably needed to just reconfigure the RAM the way I had previously. More on that in a moment.) So, I bought a new (used) board: ASUS Sabertooth 990 FX R2.0. Encounters the same no-post-BSOD. I recalled that I did indeed have that problem when I upgraded my RAM before. If I recall correctly, I had to enter BIOS with my old RAM, configure a specific speed, and then install the new RAM (which was now throttled down).

Here's the problem now: on the Sabertooth, I am unable to get the board to recognize my newer RAM at all. No configuration of chips on the board, no combination with or without the old RAM. No manual settings I have tried help. The Sabertooth has a button on the board that is supposed to auto-tune the RAM - no luck. BIOS is at latest version (2901?). According to what it supposedly supports, I think it should recognize it... Any help?

(I could possibly try the MSI board again, but that would mean re-seating the CPU again... ugh!)

Ironically I have that same kit on a ASRock 990FX Fatality with a FX8350 and its been vary problematic for me as well, I play around with settings and stuff in the bios and there is times where the system just will not boot even after clearing the cmos.

What usually seem to work with me on that old system is using only 1 stick, and if it don't work on 1 slot, try another or a different stick, once it boots, I set the 1333mhz and manually enter the timings on the label, and then shut down and throw the other stick in and it usually works, and I can apply the stable profile I saved.

Good Luck!

Thanks, Viking. I'll play with manual settings some more and let you know if I succeed. I can't operate on just 4GB.

Other members: I'm still open to additional suggestions as well.

with overclocked northbridge combined with fsb overclock, ram could reach 2GHz, so mem controller wasnt that bad

anyway if your boot issue is due to ram compatibility, near memok button there should be led lighted up
memory tunning takes 30seconds for each mem test profile
