Hi,
Im currently developing art skills at a university level and I need a monitor that displays color / contrast and is lit correctly.

Being a student I dont have very much cash to spare, so I would like not to have to use more than I have to.

It would be nice if someone could recommend a few 24/27" monitors, that would give alot of bang for buck.

Thanks in advance.

The profesional usually goes with Eizo monitor...... (they are expensive)

else the one i know that had very good calibration out of box is asus pro-art series and dell-ultrasharp series....
samsung had one also but i forget it's series name....

anyways if u can try borrow a calibration tools from friends that may had them or borrow it from the uni (if they provide it)...

i would suggest an 8bit or 10bit ips panel.

i used a viewsonic pro 8bit ips back when i was into graphic design work and it was great. in fact, even refurbished models still bring $650 (which is around what i paid for it 10 years ago!!).

tn, va and 6bit e-ips panels just arent capable of displaying colors as accurately.

will you use this panel for work projects when you get a job or just while in school? if the prior then it may be good to invest in something better. if the latter then it may not be worth your while. what type of monitors are there at the school you attend? do you plan on doing most of the work there or at home?

also.. you mentioned "art" which is rather generic. how important is color accuracy in your particular (specific) area of study? for graphic design this tends to be rather important but perhaps not as much for other studies.

just some ideas.
