Hello,
So, upon browsing around, I learned that when I first built my PC and my previous PC, that my choice to go relatively cheap on PSU's may have been a terrible choice. My most recent one is the worst offender from what I can tell, as its a XION, and I have read nothing but bad bad things with them... and I am currently ordering a new 980 GTX that would be running off from said XION:

I didn't find any XION's on the PSU tier list, which probably isn't a good sign, and every discussion I saw was very negative. Is that one even remotely safe for me to be using going forward? It is currently just over 2 years old. I don't know if there are ANY good XION's out there though, hah.
If it is unsafe, what wattage should I be looking at for a 980 GTX (factory OC) + 4770k, leaving room to possibly OC further later on? Its fairly unlikely that I will ever SLi it, but, if I did, what rating should I be looking at then? The main reason I went w/ the XION was due to having plenty of watts to Xfire / SLi if I chose to, while still being inexpensive. I am probably going to browse tier 2 PSU's of the rec. wattage, but if I can nab a tier 1 at a good price, ill of course do that.
The 2nd PSU in question is a little less of a concern as it is a better brand it seems, its a Rosewill Xtreme Series RX950-S-B 950W Continuous @40°C :

This one is, however, older. It currently is, approaching the 6 yr mark I believe, and the lady just used it to build a new PC around. Now, if it is a safe PSU that if / when it dies it won't be frying her PC, I will hold off replacing it till needed as its plenty of juice. But, if it is also a low quality that may fry her comp, let me know, so I can replace it, too. This PSU powers a R9 380 + an i5... 6400? I want to say. Being an older model, I didn't see this in the current PSU tiers either, but I am taking a guess that, being made by Rosewill, its of a better quality (tier 2ish?)
Appreciate any and all feedback, wish I wouldve done more research on the PSU's in the first place, but I didn't think anything of it at the time. I read the newegg reviews, but thats hardly good researching
