Recomended setup for gaming at 1080p

i have been trrying to plan a new system for a while i will be playing at 1080p and i want to be able to achieve 30fps minumum on all games with the settings either maxed out or very nearly maxed out.

i had settled on an i5 2500k and radeon 6970 however the launch of ivy bridge PCIe 3.0 and the new generation of GPU's has added a little confusion.

i have never overclocked in the past but will be having a go so please bear this in mind when sugesting motherboards etc. i mainly play first person shooters and im based in the uk any suggestions welcome.

also im new to the forums so i appologise if i have neglected any rules or posted in the wrong section.

i have not bought any components yet so suggestions and ideas needed for all areas apart from the case its going in the living room so the other half gets to pick that once i have a pile of parts to put in it
